I've spent most of my life in the restaurant business — including as owner of La Reserve Restaurant at the Borgata in Scottsdale, AZ, and running a successful catering company. But through it all, cooking and baking have always been my greatest passions. To me, food is how you share a piece of yourself with the people you love.

In 2000, I started baking rum cakes to give to friends as gifts. They kept asking for more — and my son Scotty finally said, "Mom, start selling the cakes!"

Scotty left this planet in 2006, but not before pushing me to take Pati's Rum Cakes all the way. Scotty used to bring Pati's Rum Cakes wherever he went, to seal a deal or simply to bring love. And it always worked. He'd say, "Mom, your rum cakes are magic!"

This business is built in his honor — and I believe he's still overseeing every cake we bake.

I am truly blessed to be doing what I love, and even more blessed to do it as a family-owned, woman-owned business — with my daughter Kristi as my partner, my daughter Angela keeping us inspired, and Scotty watching over us all.
